Alasdair

This is the Scots Gaelic form of Alexander, which was brought to Scotland by Margaret Atheling, wife of Malcolm Canmore.  Their son became King Alexander I.

Here’s Jay Atwood - didg player extraordinaire - grooving with The Wicked Tinkers at the Sonora Celtic Faire.  Every time I see him at Festivals he’s wearing his Alasdair jerkin which he has had for a few years now.  See my links page if you want to learn more about Jay and his music.

This popular unlined leather jerkin has eight picadills falling from the waistline, although I often put a peplum (as shown at right) on the larger sizes.  The Colorado mountain man who was collecting deer antlers to make buttons has gone where old mountain men go, so I am now making the Antique Brown version with nice brass Celtic knot buttons.  There are 2 inside hidden pockets for your glasses and cell phone.  Although the pockets are quite big, I do not recommend putting much more in them as the leather may distort.
